Hotel Reischlhof Wegscheid

Hotel Reischlhof focuses on sustainability

The Hotel Reischlhof, in Wegscheid in the Bavarian Forest, was extensively renovated and expanded. In a four-month renovation period, a new entrance area and a new room wing were created, as well as a modern water landscape with sports and outdoor swimming pools and a spacious natural bathing lake. In keeping with the sustainable design of the hotel complex, Glas Natter supplied NEUTRALUX® insulating glass, a highly heat-insulating glass from ISOLAR®.

The four-star superior Hotel Reischlhof in Wegscheid in the Bavarian Forest can boast numerous awards. Among others, the hotel was awarded the Bavarian Founder's Prize 2018 in the category Succession. "For us, sustainable investments in the future are important on several levels," explains managing director Hermann Reischl Junior, adding, "That's why we had new facades and new glass installed, among other things." The entire hotel complex is based on an overall ecological concept, "which includes, for example, the use of regenerative energies and the use of ecological and energy-saving materials," says architect Alexander Feßl of the eponymous architectural firm Feßl & Partner, which planned and implemented the conversion and the new building. The requirements of the Reischl family in terms of energy saving, had led them as architects to install NEUTRALUX® glasses from ISOLAR®. "These meet both the energy and aesthetic requirements" of the hotel, says Feßl.

Rebuild follows sustainability concept

The hotel was renovated and expanded in a renovation phase lasting around four months. The approximately 21 double rooms and the Sky Suite, with a generous view over the entire hotel complex and its own small sauna, were completely equipped with sustainable materials. "In addition to mineral insulation materials in the facades, we also selected and installed flooring and wall paints with a positive eco-balance," says the architect. Numerous wooden elements both on the exterior façade and in the rooms round off the overall concept and blend harmoniously into the Bavarian Forest landscape surrounded by mountain herb meadows. In the approximately 5,000-square-meter wellness and spa area, hotel guests can enjoy various saunas, a sports pool and a spacious relaxation area. An unrestricted view of the hotel garden is provided by the facade equipped with NEUTRALUX® panes, for which the companies Glas Natter (Regensburg), Glas Dersch (Waldkirchen) and the steel and metal builder Eggerstorfer (Jandelsbrunn) were responsible. "The glass is a perfect fit for our hotel and our sustainability concept," said Reischl, adding that this involves keeping energy consumption in the building as low as possible and reducing heating costs. "A hotel like the one we run requires enormous amounts of electricity and heating energy. After all, guests want to be pleasantly warm in the wellness area all year round," says the experienced hotelier.

High thermal insulation insulating glass throughout the hotel

Therefore, the entire hotel, starting in the entrance area and the restaurant, continuing through the rooms to the wellness area, is equipped with ISOLAR® glass. The new window panes ensure optimum thermal insulation and at the same time light-flooded rooms. "NEUTRALUX® glass makes an important contribution to the energy retrofitting and optimization of existing buildings," knows Barbara Bosse, prospective managing director of Glas Natter, and adds: "Compared to conventional insulating glass, NEUTRALUX® can save around 20 liters of heating oil per square meter of glass surface."

"Very large and heavy panes of this glass were installed in the restaurant, the new building and foyer, and in the swimming area," recalls Herbert Eggerstorfer, managing director of Eggerstorfer Stahl- und Metallbau. Individual panes were 2.25 meters wide and four meters high, which was above all a static and thermal challenge, "but also a logistical one," as Eggerstorfer reports from experience. In total, around 1,500 square meters of NEUTRALUX® glass were installed in the hotel.
