Special glasses for new ways of architecture
The wish for extensive glass application makes glass the material of the 21st century. The step away from the conventional room barrier to the construction element has been taken. A transparent sign of this trend are special constructions made with point-fixed glass elements.
In connection with this, glass must fulfill entirely new requirements. Contrary to traditional applications, today’s glass elements are requested to have new features in the field of load dissipation. Therefore the rules and safety aspects for the choice of glass and its determination differ strongly from previous standards. It is therefore better to keep the building authority’s mandatory requirements during the planning stage in mind.
As a matter of principle, a distinction must be made under the point fixed-glass constructions, between the different bolt head types (roundheaded or coutersunk-head), between the different bolt types (fixed or articulated) and between the variations for connection to the support structure.
The inevitable consequence of glass’s new building requirements are special glass products, glass refinement requirements, as well as glass processing which were unknown to this date.
ISOLAR® has the necessary production experience, of special glasses and project implementation, for differently point-fixed glass constructions. In 2003, the German institute for civil engineering issued authorization for a system completely conceived by the ISOLAR® group for point-fixed glass facades.
